Interview with Limited Runs

"... I also believe that a landscape absorbs the history or the life of the people who live there. Like stories or tales that the landscapes seems to tell you. ..."

Romka 9

Photograph published in Romka 9 Magazine.

" My sister took this photo when we visited our grandparents in the Northern part of Germany. It is one of my favorites, because I feel like I can smell the food that my grandmother cooked. My sister documented “life in a foreign land”, and portrayed—among others—our grandparents, who live in a small village near Hanover. They were both fugitives in WWII and could not go back to their homes in Schlesien and Pommern after the war. They settled in this small village, Ilsede, and opened up a small grocery store. To this day, they still feel like “the fugitives” in this town. They managed to build their own Heimat in a place where they never fully felt welcome. And the old recipes—how can it be otherwise—are among the things that remind them of their home. "

Textures

End of March my husband and I went on a road trip to New Mexico. This was my first visit, and the highlight of this trip was definitely the White Sands Monument. I was fascinated by the texture of the sand and how imprints formed the desert landscape. I am still in the process of editing the photographs, but I’ll show some work in progress!

Auswandern (Immigrating)

This is a project I did a while back and something I really enjoyed. I have not done something like this since and I wanted to post it to remind myself to take these kinds of photographs again. Overlapping images are fun for me not only because it makes it more abstract and one has to look a little longer to figure out what it is, but they can tell several stories about different events.

Kramermarkt

Today I am posting something fun! My husband and I went to the Kramermarkt, which is a funfair that starts at the end of September in Oldenburg, Germany. First we tried different wines at a winery stand. My husband shot a perfect score at a shooting gallery and won a big fluffy stuffed dog with big big eyes. At the end we went on the Ferris wheel and saw the whole city from up above. I usually don’t like going to funfairs but this particular day was very special, because I was able to spend a very romantic day with my husband!

Hometown

Today I thought show a series of my hometown, (well one of my hometowns: Santa Monica, California). I have spend most of my life here and I was lucky to live so close to the ocean. These moments are very unusual and rare I think, especially when you think of California. But I love the moments when the thick fog comes in from the pacific ocean and you see buildings and palm trees slowly disappearing. So I grabbed the camera quickly and walked to Palisades Park next to Ocean Avenue. These are taken with my digital canon camera.

Stadtgottesacker in Halle an der Saale

Stadtgottesacker is a small but very beautiful cemetery in the city Halle. There are many important figures buried here, among others, the family of the composer Händel. While I was studying in Halle I have been there a couple of times to take pictures of this place. I do miss living there because it was a beautiful small town with many old buildings and a lot of history. These images are taken with my 35mm Nikon analog camera with a black and white film.

Introducing my mini-series

Going through old images it is sometimes surprising finding and seeing things that one hasn’t noticed before. As I was looking through my old images I decided to put together several mini-series. They are neither long term projects nor mere snapshots of one moment. Most of these photographs reveal experiences and impressions of a place and maybe more. Well let’s see what else I can find! My first set of images are of the cemetery Stadtgottesacker in Halle, Germany. They are taken with my 35mm Nikon analog camera. To see the album go to: Flickr
